The Long Game

New Moon in Cancer - New Moon in Leo

July 14 - August 12

If this month feels like it's pulling you in more than one direction, you're not imagining it.

The sky is doing the same thing.

Some things are ready to move forward. Some things need another look. Some stories are beginning to make sense while new desires are quietly taking shape.

We open on the New Moon in Cancer, a quiet invitation to come home to yourself and tend to what matters most. Then the pace changes. Neptune and Saturn both begin their retrogrades in Aries, asking what still inspires you and reminding you that not everything has to be figured out right now. Mercury turns direct in Cancer, bringing understanding where there may have been confusion. The Sun entering Leo asks you to step into the warmth of your own life, while Venus in Virgo finds beauty in the small, thoughtful things. By the time the Full Moon arrives in Aquarius, the sky is asking us to look at our lives from an entirely different angle.

The sky changes its mood more than once this month.

Perhaps you don't need to settle into one mood, one plan, or one version of yourself just yet.

One moment asks for reflection. Another asks for courage. One asks you to tend to what matters. Another invites you to step into the light.

The month doesn't move in one direction.

Neither do we.

The King of Pentacles

Each month before I write these letters, I pull one tarot card to hold the feeling of the cycle. Not as a prediction, just as a companion for the weeks ahead.

This month, the King of Pentacles appeared.

The more I looked at the sky, the more this card made sense.

In fact, this month seems to be wearing the King's robes.

The Cancer New Moon asks what matters to you. Mercury turning direct in Cancer helps you understand what you've been feeling and carrying with you. Venus in Virgo reminds us that care and devotion are often found in the small things we return to again and again.

And then there's all that fire.

Neptune retrograde in Aries asks what still inspires you. Saturn retrograde in Aries asks you to stand in your own authority. Leo season encourages you to enjoy your life and step into the warmth of it. Even the Aquarius Full Moon invites you to look at things from a different perspective.

These are all King of Pentacles qualities.

Knowing what matters.

Knowing what deserves your care.

Knowing what is yours to build, protect, and enjoy.

He isn't rushed.

He isn't easily distracted.

He trusts what takes time.

He knows who he is, what he values, and what is worth showing up for.

He's playing the long game.

A different perspective can change everything.

The Long Game: A Tarot Spread

Five cards for what matters, what lasts, and what deserves your steady attention.

You can pull this at the New Moon, the Full Moon, or any time you need to step back and look at the bigger picture. The long game isn't built in a single moment. It's built one choice, one season, and one act of care at a time.

1. What has proven its worth in my life? (King of Pentacles)

2. What still inspires me? (Neptune retrograde in Aries)

3. Where can I let the pressure come off? (Saturn retrograde in Aries)

4. Where does life look good on me right now? (Sun in Leo)

5. Where is love asking me to pay attention? (Venus in Virgo)

Start there.

Journal Questions

You don't have to answer all of these. Start with the one that won't let you go.

On worth

• What in my life has proven its worth over time?

• Where have I been investing my time and energy wisely?

On inspiration

• What still inspires me?

• What would happen if I took that inspiration a little more seriously?

On pressure

• Where can I let the pressure come off?

• What have I been trying to force?

On enjoying your life

• Where does life look good on me right now?

• What would bring a little more warmth and enthusiasm into my days?

On attention and care

• Where is love asking me to pay attention?

• What small, thoughtful thing deserves my care?

New Moon Ritual

For the Cancer New Moon – July 14

You don't need much to for this quiet ritual. A candle, your special journal, and a little quiet space for yourself.

  1. Settle in. Light your candle. Take three slow deep breaths. You have arrived.

  2. Your first question. Write at the top of a blank page: I miss....Then write. Write until you feel complete. Read your words back to yourself. Then ask:

  3. The second question. If I truly miss this, how can I begin to bring it back? Write one small thing you can do over the next month. This is your intention.

  4. Close your ritual be sitting with your candle a few minutes longer to set your intention. Blow out your candle and keep in your heart that some things are worth returning to. Some things are worth tending.

Full Moon Follow-Up

For the Aquarius Full Moon – July 29

Gather your candle, your journal and your quiet space.

  1. Settle in. Light your candle and take three slow deep breaths.

  2. Return to what you wrote for yourself at the New Moon. Read what you miss and what is worth tending. Let it settle in.

  3. Then ask: What belief, expectation, or rule says there isn't room for this in my life? Write it down. Then read it aloud. Hold it in your body until it feels ready to be let go.

  4. Tear your paper into tiny pieces and throw it away. Let it be gone.

  5. Close your ritual by sitting with your candle for a little longer. Sit with the feeling that you are lighter, that you have created space inside your body. Feel the lightness. Sometimes making room means letting go.

This is a month of remembering what matters and questioning what doesn't.

Cancer asks what you miss while Leo reminds you to enjoy the life that's already here.

Aries wants you to remember what still inspires you and release some of the pressure you have been carrying.

Venus in Virgo invites you to pay attention to the small things that quietly hold meaning, while the Aquarius Full Moon asks whether the rules you've been living by still fit.

The King of Pentacles stands in the middle of all of it.

He knows what matters. He isn't afraid to let of of what no longer supports the life he built. Some things are worth keeping, some are worth growing, and some are worth releasing so something new has room to take root.

We're simply deciding this month, what is worth bringing with us.

After all, we are playing the long game.

From me to you,

Patty
